10 of My Favorite Fall Activities

Fall is hands down my favorite season (spring being a close second). Apple picking, bonfires, football games, and all things pumpkin—pumpkin patches, pumpkin bread, pumpkin carving, pumpkin pie. Aromas of chili and apple crisp wafting through the house. Flickering candles and dark nights. Visits to the pumpkin patch with dear friends and pumpkin carving with the kids.

Something about the crisp Autumn air that quickens your soul and makes you breathe in a little deeper.

As moms, it’s easy to feel like you need to do every single fun fall activity on Pinterest for your family to feel the season and if this makes your heart (and family) happy, then by all means, bring on the fall fun. But if you are in a season of struggle—maybe you just had a baby, lost a loved one or are battling a health condition–perhaps life feels extra overwhelming right now. Instead of throwing in the towel completely, simplify your list this year. Pick 2 or 3 activities that actually sound fun and savor the few rather than rushing through the many.

There will be years where your troops will frolic through the pumpkin patch and you’ll capture those perfect shots of your kids among a truck bed of oddly shaped gourds, and there will be years of sick kids, cancelled plans, and drive by runs to Safeway for pumpkins…guess what, there are no star charts or bonus points given out to moms.

I love a simple approach to celebrating the season; and I think each new season can be beautiful and meaningful regardless of how much or how little you “do.”
